12U and 14U Clean Up in Massena!

On October 19th and 20th, both 12U and 14U played in the Massena Minor Hockey Association’s fourth annual Play for a Cure Tournament up in the North Country—and both teams came home with championship banners!

After a 6-2 loss to the Cornwall Typhoons on the first day of the tournament, the 12U team faced the Typhoons again in the championship game. The Shooting Stars scored early to go ahead by one, but the Typhoons quickly rallied to take a 3-1 lead. The Stars fought back to tie the game with only three minutes left in the third period, then scored just 25 seconds into 3-on-3 sudden death overtime to take the title. Congratulations to 12U for completing such an amazing comeback!

Immediately after the 12U game, 14U took the ice at Massena Arena for a championship game of their own. In the round robin, the Stars tied the Massena River Queens 1-1 with a late goal. In the championship game, the Stars jumped out to a lead on their very first shift. However, the host team knotted the score at 1-1 with a power play goal early in the third, setting the stage for a late goal by the Stars that held up as the winner. Congratulations to 14U on a total team effort!

Thanks to all the players, coaches, families, and volunteers for making it a fun, successful, and memorable weekend!
